Paxos operates custody directly under its own charter as a national trust bank. When a question comes up in diligence or in production, you're talking to the team that runs it.

Paxos holds assets as a federally chartered national trust bank. Assets are legally segregated and bankruptcy-remote under federal banking law. A trust company holds assets in a fiduciary capacity, so what we custody is never lent or rehypothecated.

While we've been a qualified custodian since 2015, the way we operate day-to-day is what makes the difference. It's the same discipline your own operations run on.

Keys never leave the hardware

Keys are generated and held inside FIPS-grade HSMs, and plaintext keys never leave them. Tiered wallets available, with HSM-backed hot wallets for routine flows and cold wallets for long-term storage in air-gapped HSMs.

Every movement is policy-gated

A default-deny policy engine checks every movement against notional limits, destination allowlists, and client authorizations before signing. Maker-checker approvals run in independent environments, so no single operator or system acts alone.

Reconciled daily

Every day we reconcile on-chain wallets, internal ledgers, and bank balances against each other, with real-time monitoring behind it. Controls are SOC-audited, regulator-ready, and open to detailed diligence.
